About Us

The Eatwise Clinic is an ever-expanding team of 4 dietitians. We have been working in the St George and Sutherland Shire areas for over 20 years. As dietitians, we love food so much that we studied it for 5 years (at least) and talk about food all day, every day!

With specialist Dietitians focusing on Paediatrics, Bariatric Surgery, Gut Dysfunction, Diabetes, Weight Management, Eating Disorders and other complex presentations, the team at The Eatwise Clinic are perfectly suited to help with any nutritional concern or question.

We have all had experience working in major hospitals across Sydney and collectively have over 60 years of experience working as Dietitians. We believe in evidence-based advice delivered with practical strategies. We keep up to date with changes in scientific research, as well as food trends and social media focus points (sometimes justified, other times completely off the mark and confusing). We believe in encouraging what you should eat, rather than focusing on what not to eat!

At The Eatwise Clinic, we believe in overall healthy, sustainable, filling meal plans – full of fruits, vegetables, lean proteins and high-quality carbohydrates, all supported by scientific evidence. We are Accredited Practising Dietitians, University trained professionals and registered members of both Dietitian’s Australia and Australia and New Zealand Academy of Eating Disorders.

What We Do

At The Eatwise Clinic, we are a team of experienced dietitians. We can support everyone in need of nutrition education, counselling, or planning. Our clients across the entire life span, from pre-birth through to end-of-life support. We see all medical speciality areas and engage with local GP’s, allied health professionals (including physio’s, EP’s, Speech Pathologists and psychologists), physicians and surgeons. We see clients with all kinds of presenting backgrounds, including those who have a poor relationship with food and their bodies, to others who want to get a clearer understanding of the role food and nutrition play in their diagnosis.

The Eatwise Clinic is NDIS registered and Verified, meaning we can support all NDIS funding streams, including those who are NDIA managed. We can support the nutrition understanding and management of all kinds of disabilities, including meal plans (and recipes) for Supported Independent Living (SIL) Facilities, Individual Nutrition Policies, and management of enteral (tube) feeding.

Our team of experienced dietitians are also currently taking on new dietitian supervisee’s. Professional supervision is a safe and confidential place for qualified dietitians to further their careers and skill development, and address areas of concern you have in your own individual practice and/or work environment.

Specialty Service Areas

Diabetes, Cardiovascular and Gastrointestinal Dietetic Services

We can help you understand your medical diagnosis and its relationship with food. We fundamentally believe in you understanding why you need to make changes, not just what to change. We are not about ‘diets’. We are about nutrition counselling and education to support you having the best opportunity to achieve your desired outcome.

Paediatric and Disability Dietetic Services

We understand that kids have specific nutritional needs and paediatric nutrition encompasses the entire family. We have a particular passion for supporting kids and adults requiring tube feeding. Our goal is to get them off the tube as quickly as possible. If this is not possible, we work with families to ensure the tube is as minimally invasive to family life.  We can also manage a wide range of nutritional issues that impact children and their families and are able to provide feeding therapy.

Bariatric Dietetic Services​

The Eatwise Clinic has many specialty areas, covering a wide range of dietetic issues. However, there is one specialty we’re particularly well-known for and that’s as dietitians for bariatric surgery.

We work closely with multiple surgeons in your local area and throughout Sydney who perform all kinds of bariatric surgeries including sleeve gastrectomy, Roux-en-Y gastric bypass and mini-gastric bypass surgeries.

Eating Disorder Dietetic Services​

We support clients with acute and atypical anorexia, bulimia, binge eating disorder, and ARFID (Avoidant, Restrictive Food Intake Disorder).

We work closely with local experienced eating disorder psychologists and GPs to help you understand and challenge the eating disorder.

We understand how destructive and exhausting eating disorders can be. How they encapsulate everything about a person’s family, friends, work, study and entire world. We work with our clients and their support team (friends and family) through recovery.

NDIS

We are NDIS Registered and Verified, that means no matter which funding stream you utlise (Self, plan or agency managed) we can provide nutritional support for NDIS participants through their NDIS plan.

Professional Dietitian Supervision

Our Dietitians are recognised by Dietitian Supervision Resources Australia International to provide professional supervision to other dietitians. We believe supervision is a safe place for qualified dietitians to further develop their clinical practice.

Health Issues

  • Hypertension (High Blood Pressure)

    Changing your dietary intake, increasing exercise and losing some weight (if indicated) all independently can lower your BP.

  • Hyperlipidemia (High Blood Cholesterol)

    There are different components of cholesterol, and each has a different dietary strategy to help increase or decrease them.

  • Diverticular Disease, Diverticulosis, Diverticulitis

    The key to preventing diverticulosis from becoming diverticulitis is to ensure you’re getting enough fibre in your diet. 60% of Australian adults don’t consume enough fibre.

  • Type 1 Diabetes(Pens/Pumps)

    Understanding your dietary intake, particularly the amount of carbohydrate you consume, and your need for insulin is vitally important.

  • Type 2 Diabetes (Diet or Insulin)

    When diabetes is diagnosed, dietary management is vitally important to prevent long term complications such as poor eyesight, kidney disease or blocked arteries.

  • Insulin Resistance (Pre-Diabetes)

    There are lots of lifestyle strategies that can be implemented to reverse insulin resistance and prevent (or slow) its transition to Type 2 Diabetes.

  • Poly-Cystic Ovarian Syndrome

    Changing your lifestyle (food & movement) is the key to controlling symptoms and reducing complications of PCOS.

  • Fatty Liver, Cirrhosis & Liver Failure

    There are currently no medications to prevent liver disease progression. The best strategy is to improve your lifestyle.

  • Chronic Renal Failure (stages 1-5 & Dialysis)

    At stages 1 – 3 the focus is to preserve your current kidney function and prevent further decline by making some significant and sustainable changes to your diet and exercise.

  • Recurrent Kidney Stones

    Kidney stones develop when waste products inside your kidney join together and form a solid mass (or a ‘stone’). The best strategy to prevent them from growing is to stay well hydrated at all times.

  • Gout

    Gout is caused by a build-up of uric acid and presents as small crystals form in and around key joints (most commonly in the knees, feet or hands) and cause inflammation and significant pain.

  • Irritable Bowel Syndrome (low FODMAP Diet)

    IBS is harmless, but distressing, either an elimination diet or considering your fibre intake might help to alleviate some of the unpleasant symptoms.

  • Coeliac Disease

    Coeliac disease is very different from “gluten intolerance” and needs to be clearly understood and a strict gluten-free diet implemented to minimise complications.

  • Crohn's & Ulcerative Colitis

    Crohn’s and Ulcerative Colitis are painful & distressing conditions. While there are no known causes, changing your diet can help to minimise the symptoms.

  • Malnutrition (Elderly & Respiratory Conditions)

    Up to 72% of aged care residents have been shown to be malnourished. Implementing high protein, high energy diet strategies will assist weight gain and prevent further weight loss.

  • Weight Gain

    Being underweight is more dangerous to our health than being overweight. There should be a focus on ‘making every mouthful count’.

  • Disordered Eating: Binge Eating, Anorexia, Bulimia

    Recovery from an eating disorder requires an experienced supportive team including friends, family, your GP, an experienced psychologist & dietitian as well as possibly a psychiatrist.

  • Fussy Feeding and Nutrient Deficiencies

    Having a fussy feeder is stressful for parents and can cause micronutrient deficiencies. It's important to address these deficiencies while gradually expanding the child's diet. Feeding therapy may help some children accept new foods.

  • Tube Feeding

    At times, some children and adults require complete or supplemental feeding through a tube.  They need close monitoring by a Dietitian to ensure their plan is meeting their nutritional needs, is well tolerated and fits with their lifestyle.

  • Pregnant and Breast-Feeding Mothers

    Pregnant and Breast-Feeding mothers have specialised nutritional needs and may require some support to ensure the best health outcomes for both themselves and their baby.
